Lesson 03: Advantages and fruits of offering prayer, (salah)

Advantages of prayers for individuals and role of prayers in character building:



 



i. Realization of slavery to Allah :



Standing five times a day in front of Allah revives this thought in a person's mind that he is slave of his Lord. This realization of being servant to Allah becomes the second instinct of a Muslim. More, his whole life becomes a practical model of obedience to commandments of Allah.



 



ii. Closeness to Allah:



The feeling of praying five times a day makes a believer realize that Allah's mercy is with him and that person doesn't feel himself alone. The feeling of Allah's company refrains him from sinful acts and removes all types of fear and sorrow from hisheart. A man seeks help from Allah in salah and secretly talks to Allah while offering prayer. Therefore, prayers are the source of closeness to Allah.



 



iii. Staying away from sins:



During the breaks among prayers, the effects of offering prayers prevail. When thought of sin comes to a slave's mind, he thinks that he just offered prayer and prayed "O Allah, save me from sins". If he does any act of sin then with which face he would stand in front of Allah. This feeling permanently makes him abstain from committing sins.



 



iv. Training of punctuality:



The timings are prescribed for congregational prayers. Azan is given on proper time and congregational prayer is offered on fixed time. By offering congregational prayer, the training of punctuality is done. There is a great secret of success hidden in. punctuality.



 



Allah says in Quran.



 



إِنَّ الصَّلوةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا



 



Translation: Indeed, prayer has been made obligatory on believers on fixed time. Purification and cleanliness:



The first condition for offering prayers is purification of body, clothes and place of offering. Apparent purification and cleanliness, is the source of internal purification. Therefore, the commandment of apparent purification has been given in salah. A person purifies, 'cleanliness and purification become an internal parts of a person's life which have been regarded as half of the faith.



 



v. Source of Allah's assistance:



Allah's help and assistance is secured by offering prayers because it is the best source for achieving Allah's help. We have been directed in Quran to seek Allah's help by offering salah. It is Allah's saying that.



وَاسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلوة (البقره:153)



 



Translation: And seek help through patience and prayer.



Collective benefits of Salah/Role of Salah in establishment of society:



vi. Lesson of equality:



The sense of collectivity prevails among Muslims by offering congregational prayer and particularly by offering Jumah and Eid prayers with congregation. When Muslims stand together behind an imaam beyond the boundaries of color, race, region and sect, then besides the reaization of intellectual unity, the feeling of practical equality is also produced among them..



"Aik hi suf main kharay ho gaey mehmood o Ayaz 



Na koi banda raha aur na koi banda nawaz"



 



vii. Love and Unity:



In achieving Allah's pleasure and in doing His worship, the people have harmony among them which helps in correction of society and feeling of sympathy and welfare develop among each other.



viii. Realization of Collectivity:



The impact of collective deeds is more effective than individual deeds and collectivity propagates due to these acts. Therefore, the reward of congregational prayer is twenty seven times more than individual prayers.



ix. Appeal and invitation to righteousness;



By looking at people offering prayer and visiting mosques, the people who don't offer prayers get an invitation and persuasion in their hearts for doing this vital act. of obligation. Seeing people offering salah is a source of inspiration for them and they turn their attention to prayers.



x. Discipline and order:



The deputation of a congregational leader and his obedience in prayers create sense of collective discipline and order. Prophet Muhammad said about the people that those people who do not visit mosques for offering prayers: "Had I not thought about spouse and kids, I would have burnt their houses".





xi. Abstaining from evil deeds:



Prayer is the greatest source of staying away from bad deeds for every person. There is such effect and power in salah that keeps a person away from bad deeds and persuades towards doing good deeds.



It is said by Allah



 



ان الصلوة تنهى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ (سورة التثبوت -45)



 



Translation: Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrong doing.
